Isn't it true that kids get the most fun out of "ordinary" things.
I remember hours of playtime in large boxes that had once held refrigerators or washers/dryers (Thanks to that appliance store at the end of the block). We would cut out windows and hook them together in long configurations. We would paint and decorate them as well as move in "furniture" to make for comfortable sitting.
